Malaysia`s Steps to Enhance Palm Oil Sustainability with RT ECO™
The Malaysian government is currently reviewing the innovative RT ECO™ technology for managing palm oil mill effluent (POME) to promote sustainable palm oil production.
The Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities, Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani, emphasized that this technology is crucial in addressing the growing environmental demands of the global market.
"Environmental issues are now a top priority in the palm oil industry. The global market closely monitors how we manage waste before deciding to purchase palm oil products," Johari stated.
He added that proper waste management is vital for the long-term sustainability of the industry and the protection of water resources. If waste contaminates water channels, it could become a national issue.

The Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) has been tasked with assessing the effectiveness of RT ECO™, particularly for small-scale mills. "MPOB will evaluate the durability and efficiency of this technology before considering its widespread application," Johari explained.
As the second-largest palm oil producer in the world after Indonesia, Malaysia exports around 15 million metric tons of palm oil annually. RT ECO™, using electrochemical technology,
treats POME to meet global sustainability standards. The visit was also attended by MPOB Director-General, Datuk Dr. Ahmad Parveez Ghulam Kadir.
